The Ottawa Citizen recently reported that Health Canada has been publishing research in in the International Food Risk Analysis Journal. This journal, and its publisher appear to have a very close relationship with Health Canada. Two of the editors-in-chief are from Health Canada and over 75% of the articles published in the journal are written partly or entirely by Health Canada staff. In addition, the journal seems to avoid true peer review by allowing Health Canada to review some of its own articles. The publisher, InTech, has been labeled as a “predatory publisher” or “vanity press” and is highly suspect in academic publishing circles.
