Video: The Library…Everywhere!

Check out our new promo video The Library…Everywhere!

This is part of a planned series of one minute videos designed to showcase the library services available to the staff of St. Michael’s Hospital.  The Scotiabank Health Sciences Library worked with practicum students from the University of Toronto’s iSchool to plan and produce promotional videos.  The videos provide a glimpse of what’s available and are an invitation to find out more online or in person.

See some photos from behind the scenes.

Please note that the Health Sciences Library is a staff library and is not open to the general public.

Laughter Yoga for the win!

Well we didn’t win the Inter-Hospital Health Challenge, but the journey was fun!  The Library Challenge Team the “Info-matics” sponsored the hour long midday event.

Our instructors Naturopathic doctors Hanifa Menan and Jeff Appelmann of the Menan Centre for Optimum Health in Oakville led 28 people through light stretching, yogic breathing, simulated laughter and play.

Laughter Yoga was created in 1995 by family physician Dr. Kataria, who was seeking a way to relieve stress for some of his patients.  These laughter exercises do not depend upon jokes which can be limited by experience and culture.  Artificial laughter results in reduction of stress, lower blood pressure and increase in endorphins.
